Call for Abstracts -- Research and Education
The current theme “New Century for FCS: New Challenges, New Solutions” gives professionals an opportunity to confront the challenges that individuals, families, and communities will face in the future and to propose solutions that will ensure optimal quality of life. During the 2010 Annual Conference, there will be a “Research and Resources (R & R) Session” where FCS students and professionals can share recent research and educational resources that fit the conference theme.
Abstracts will be peer-reviewed in accordance with the following criteria: (1) significance or usefulness of the research and or educational activity; (2) soundness of the research design or educational delivery; (3) accuracy of interpretation of the research results; (4) accuracy/relevancy of the implications and/or conclusions of the research or activity; and (5) clarity and organization of presentation. LAFCS encourages undergraduate and graduate student research and educational resources. Students will follow the same general format as other authors. Additional requirements are noted below. Acceptance for research or education presentation, either poster or oral, obligates the author to register and attend the LAFCS Annual Convention.
Format for Abstract Submission:
The abstract cannot exceed 750 words. The title of the presentation, the name of the author and the name of the author’s institution (following each name, in cases of multiple authors) must be included with the abstract submission. The abstract should include the following sections in the order given:
· Research: Purpose, Procedures, Findings, and Implications.
· Educational Resource/Activity: Purpose, Implementation, Outcomes, and Implications

Additional Information for the Student Research Submissions:
For Student Submissions ONLY, the submission form must include the name of the faculty advisor. Submissions should also meet the following guidelines: (1) Research must be based on a class project, thesis, or dissertation; (2) Research or educational resources must have been the primary responsibility of the student; (3) Abstract must be submitted from students who are enrolled in a program; and (4) Student receiving the award must attend the 2010 Annual Conference to make a presentation.
