2007 - 2008 LAFCS Program of Work
Goal Area 1: Public Awareness Objective: Utilize communication networks to disseminate information Strategies: a. Maintain LAFCS website b. Disseminate a directory of the Executive Board and members with contact information and email addresses c. Publish a quarterly newsletter of association activities. Objective: Involve members in public relations/public awareness endeavors Strategies: a. Encourage membership to submit articles, pictures, etc. to newsletter. b. Participate in a joint state-wide service project (i.e. HfH) Goal Area 2: Funding - AAFCS operates with a balanced budget and with adequate human and fiscal resources to accomplish its goals. Objective: Operate within a balanced budget and with adequate resources to accomplish goals Strategies: a. Work with the district presidents to recruit and reclaim members. b. Involve all of the university student chapters and affiliate districts to submit a gift basket for the basket fund-raiser held at the annual conference. c. Implement phone and/or letter writing campaign to recruit and reclaim members in each district. Goal Area 3: Advocacy/Public Policy Objective: Advocate for the issues included in the FCS Body of Knowledge and influence public policy. Strategies: a. Address issues dealing with “America’s Cultural Kaleidoscope: Challenges and Opportunities” at the 2008 Annual Conference and district meetings. b. Promote the importance of the role of FCS to the general public or community groups by being available as guest speakers. Goal Area 4: Professional Development Objective: Develop effective, competent, and ethical leaders Strategies: a. Continue to allow flexibility in districts by asking each district to elect/appoint president, president-elect, and secretary-treasurer at a minimum, and other officers to be determined by each new district. b. Continue mentoring efforts by providing a networking session for professionals and students at annual conference and leadership workshop. Objective: Provide meaningful professional development opportunities at annual conference Strategies: a. Strive for record attendance by both professionals and students at 2008 Annual Meeting b. Research poster sessions that were reinstated at the 2007 conference. c. Reinstate scrapbook competition at 2008 conference. d. Offer educational sessions at annual conference on the theme, “America’s Culture Kaleidoscope: Challenges and Opportunities”.
